So apparently DA's system is completely messed up regarding favorite stats. Anything 2015-2016 shows up as zero so I can't get a list of my best liked work..this sucks.
Well 2016 has certainly been an interesting year, but not without controversy. It was the year I decided to completely move away from my own stories and only do commission work and 1 shots. The last of which was I think Princesses Diary 25 back in January. Several commission series started before came to their conclusion: Showtime, Wishful Thinking, It's Neko Time, Fantasy Becomes Reality, With This Ring, Job Requirements, and Magical Moment.
This year brought many more sequences including: Necklace of Change: The Gift, Rescue Gone Even More Wrong, The Challenge, When Corsages Attack, Queen of Darkness, The Makeover, Shifting Allegiances, Surprise, Ambushed, Old World Attitude Adjustment, Maid for You, Nekofied, Fate/Stay Wrong, Gotta TG em All, Golden Time, as well as many 6 steps and 1 shots. Going all commissions was a risky venture, but it's definitely paid off and I've had no shortage of content to post. In fact this all the new commissions I worked on this year:
Commission weren't the only thing I did though. I did many, many, many 1 shot drawings and what came to be known as my lunch time sketches. Crossposting tose with Facebook allowed me to reach a wider audience and show the people I know in real life my artwork. I had lot of fun with them and I got to pay homage to some of my favorite anime and I actually branched out and drew more guys. This was also my first Drawlloween which was challenging at times, but I'm glad I did it.
The Short and Tight series launched, but didn't go very far..yet. There is one coming in 2017 and I might do some more on my own to jumpstart it. Oh and I started drawing furries..a lot of you seemed to like that. Heh that's an understatement. Yeah after many years of being asked and denying I finally found a furry style I liked so I started to emulate it and sometimes taking it even further. That was a blast and I even got to draw some of my all time favorite furry characters. I did about half of what will eventually become a Gothloli Furry Coloring book, hopefully in 2017 I can finish the rest.
And of course there's the plushie series which I didn't think was going to explode like it did. I guess cute girl+cute animals = huge win. I used to do a lot with chibis so it's cool to go back to the concept. I got the idea after watching a video of an anime inspired cam girl..though mine is much more wholesome.
Last but not least I finally pulled the trigger and set up a Patreon for myself. I'd been considering it for a long time and kept putting it off and believing that not many people would donate. But as time went on, I realized that wasn't the case and even though it seemed daunting, it was pretty easy. It also lets me do more adult material occasionally. The response has been positive so far though, and the donation amount is higher than I expected in my first month. If it continues to grow like that, a lot of good things will come.
I'm sure I missed some stuff, but those are my general overview thoughts on the year.
So what's next in 2017?
Well several commissions are coming to their end and I'm sure many new ones will take their place.
More plushies Anime/video game related: This is something I think could be big at cons. Off the top of my head wishlist: Cowboy Bebop, Noir, Final Fantasy, Escaflowne, Naruto, Gundam, Street Fighter, Slayers, Dirty Pair, One Piece, Food Wars, Inuyasha, Bleach, and many more.
More Furries: Both my own stuff, and furry versions of popular characters. I tried it with Ranma, I'm eager to try it with others. Plus like I said finish the Goth Loli Furry Coloring Book. Furry Tails- Fairy tale princesses (and other characters) as furrys.
COLOR! I want to do more of it..we'll see.
Patreon: In the immediate there will be a new 6 Steps uploaded soon. Down the road I will be setting of stretch goal to fund "Almost There"
into a full story. And I will also be setting up one to fund an original TG story based on a concept I've teased a few times. The Patreon is huge. Right now it's helping me pay my bills but if it grows large enough I'll be able to upgrade my equipment. If, pie in the sky thinking. it gets extemely big I could quit or reduce my hours at work which would leave much more time for drawing. If that were the case I could go back to some of those stories you used to enjoy. But that's a ways off. If you haven't checked out my Patreon yet, please do. Only $1 gets you access to exclusive drawings. www.patreon.com/escafa
Basically if you want to see more color work or more original stories like Temptation of Evil or Crossplay, this is the way we get there.
Conventions: I want to do Artist Alley again. I already missed signing up for Animeboston.
But I dunno if there's anything else around here I might try, or just take the year to get set up for 2018.
Well that's all Have a good New Year's Eve everyone, and onward into 2017
